Three Men Charged in Sex Trafficking of 13-Year-Old Girl in Bucks County, Pennsylvania

Predators Used Social Media to Lure, Groom, and Exploit a Young Victim

A horrifying case of child sex trafficking has led to the arrest of three men accused of exploiting a 13-year-old girl through social media and online dating platforms. Authorities say the case underscores the alarming dangers children face online — and the urgent need for parents and guardians to remain vigilant.

Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn announced that Zachary Lee McCauley, 29, of Louisville, Kentucky, allegedly trafficked the minor after meeting her on Snapchat. He faces multiple felony charges, including human trafficking, sexual assault, and child exploitation.

According to investigators, McCauley posed as a 17-year-old boy named “Jake” to groom and manipulate the victim. Over time, his deceptive communication escalated from emotional grooming to coercion and threats.

“This case exemplifies just how long the reach is of a child sexual predator using these social media platforms,” said District Attorney Schorn. “If there are additional victims, we will make sure that this individual is prosecuted for those crimes.”

Online Grooming Turned to Violence and Trafficking

Investigators say McCauley began by establishing trust, pretending to share the same interests as the young girl. Once she was emotionally dependent, he used grooming tactics to lower her defenses before threatening harm to her mother if she didn’t comply with his demands.

McCauley eventually instructed the victim to create a Grindr dating app profile — a platform intended for adult use — where he arranged for her to meet two Pennsylvania men:

  • Jon Van Ingen, 67, of Buckingham Township, Bucks County

  • Randy Quinn, 42, of Coopersburg, Lehigh County

Authorities allege that both men sexually assaulted the girl multiple times, including at the Mainstreet Inn in Doylestown. At least one of the assaults was reportedly recorded via Snapchat video call, further illustrating the intersection between digital platforms and real-world exploitation.

“He used grooming tactics to lower her inhibition, and then those tactics evolved into threatening to inflict harm upon her mother if she did not comply,” Schorn said.

A Mother’s Instinct and Action Helped Save Her Daughter

The investigation began in October, when the victim’s mother made a chilling discovery. She walked in on her daughter recording explicit videos of herself and immediately contacted Buckingham Township Police, surrendering her daughter’s phone, iPad, and MacBook.

Months later, after seeing a related child predator press conference, she reached out again — this time to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office — reigniting the investigation that ultimately led to the arrests.

“I praise the mother in this case because her instincts were correct,” said Schorn. “Parents must continue an open dialogue with their children about online dangers and look at their devices.”

Authorities credit the mother’s proactive steps for helping investigators uncover the trafficking ring before the abuse could continue or spread to other victims.

Social Media — A Dangerous Tool for Modern Predators

This case is a stark example of how predators exploit technology and social media anonymity to manipulate vulnerable minors. Platforms like Snapchat and Grindr are frequently misused by offenders who hide their identities behind fake profiles.

“These forums allow predators to operate with frightening anonymity,” Schorn warned. “Unfortunately, this is a theme we see time and time again.”

Experts emphasize that parents and guardians must monitor online interactions, know which apps their children use, and discuss the risks of communicating with strangers online. Warning signs of grooming often include secretive behavior, sudden emotional changes, or attempts to isolate the child from family and friends.

Charges and Ongoing Investigation

As of this report:

  • McCauley remains in custody in Kentucky and is awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania.

  • Van Ingen and Quinn have been released on bail pending trial.

  • A third man reportedly backed out of an encounter after realizing the girl was underage and did not engage in sexual activity, according to prosecutors.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities believe additional victims may come forward as evidence is reviewed.

District Attorney Schorn assured the public that her office is working closely with federal and state agencies to identify all individuals connected to the case.
