In a disturbing child sexual abuse case from Plano, Texas, Christopher Owen has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being found guilty of continuous sexual abuse of a child. This case, while based in Texas, resonates deeply with survivors and advocates in Pennsylvania, highlighting the urgent need for vigilance, support, and justice for those who have suffered from similar long-term abuse.
According to Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis, the victim—a child who was just seven years old when they disclosed the abuse—reported that Owen had been sexually abusing them for several years. An investigation led by the Plano Police Department and forensic specialists at the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County uncovered that the abuse began when the child was only one year old and continued until the age of six.
Detectives Kristina McClain and Jeff Rich interviewed Owen, who admitted to the repeated abuse. The jury later learned during the punishment phase that Owen had also sexually abused two other children, solidifying the conclusion that he was a serial predator.
“This serial predator stole the innocence of multiple children,” said DA Willis in a public statement. “Because of their bravery and law enforcement's tireless work, the jury ensured he will spend the rest of his life in prison with no chance of parole.”
Under Texas law, a conviction for continuous sexual abuse of a child requires a life sentence without parole—a critical legal provision aimed at ensuring such offenders cannot harm again. The severity of this sentence also sends a message about the permanent trauma that survivors endure and the lifelong responsibility society has to protect them.
While this case occurred in Texas, survivors in Pennsylvania face similar challenges: delayed disclosures, emotional trauma, and the fear of not being believed. But no survivor should suffer in silence—and no predator should go unpunished.
At Survivors of Abuse PA, our team—led by Ashley DiLiberto, Esq.—is dedicated to providing survivors with the legal advocacy and trauma-informed support they need to pursue civil justice.
