A 22-year-old man from Scranton—who served as both the van driver and youth group leader for Ray of Hope Church in Taylor, PA—is facing serious criminal charges. Authorities allege he sexually abused a mentally disabled teen girl for approximately two years, from July 2021 to July 2023.
Court documents reveal the victim, now 19, continues to rely on daily assistance and was incapable of consenting, as noted in her Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
Abuse occurred repeatedly—often during rides home in the church van after other passengers had been dropped off. In one incident on New Year’s Eve, the accused lured the girl to the church under the guise of cleaning up and proceeded to assault her.
During a May 8 interrogation at Lackawanna County Prison, the suspect admitted the assaults. He cynically rationalized his crimes by saying, “That’s the only girl I ever met with that would actually do something sexually wise with me.”
The defendant now faces multiple felony counts, including:
Rape of a disabled person
Forcing a disabled person to perform oral sex
Aggravated assault
A preliminary hearing is scheduled with District Judge Paul Ware on May 21.
