A McMinn County, Tennessee man has been sentenced to 10 consecutive life sentences without parole, plus an additional 16 years in prison, in what prosecutors describe as one of the longest criminal sentences in Tennessee history for a child sexual abuse case.
According to the 10th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Kenterrius McGuffie, 29, of Athens, Tennessee, was sentenced by District Judge Sandra Donaghy on January 7 after pleading guilty to 27 felony charges stemming from the sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
District Attorney General Stephen Hatchett announced the sentence, emphasizing the seriousness and lasting harm caused by the crimes.
The case originated in 2024 after law enforcement received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Authorities were alerted to child sexual abuse material being uploaded by a Snapchat user, later identified as McGuffie.
Investigators traced the activity to McGuffie, detained him at his place of employment in Sweetwater, Tennessee, and executed a search warrant at his home in Athens. Evidence recovered from electronic devices and Snapchat formed the basis of the charges and sentencing.
The District Attorney’s Office credited multiple agencies for their work in the investigation, including:
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
10th Judicial District Drug Task Force
Athens Police Department
McMinn County Sheriff’s Office
Metro Nashville Police Department
10th Judicial Children’s Advocacy Center
The case underscores the importance of coordinated efforts between law enforcement, child advocacy professionals, and technology monitoring organizations to identify and stop online exploitation.
While no sentence can undo the harm caused by child sexual abuse, decisive accountability can be a critical step toward justice for survivors. Severe sentences send a message that crimes against children will not be tolerated and that those who exploit minors face lifelong consequences.
For survivors, especially those whose abuse involved recorded material or long-term exploitation, knowing an offender has been removed from society can provide a sense of safety and validation — even though healing is a deeply personal and ongoing process.
Although this case occurred in Tennessee, child sexual abuse and exploitation cases occur across the country, including throughout Pennsylvania. Survivors in PA have come forward in cases involving online exploitation, abuse by trusted adults, and failures by institutions to protect children.
In many situations, survivors may have civil legal options in addition to criminal proceedings, particularly when negligence, enabling behavior, or institutional failures played a role.
Survivors of Abuse PA helps survivors understand their rights and pursue accountability through the civil justice system. The firm is represented by Ashley B. DiLiberto, Esq., a trauma-informed attorney dedicated to advocating for survivors of sexual abuse.
